Introducing the 2015 Summer All-American Delegations

After months of sorting through over 75 applications, we are excited to introduce the 2015 All-American Summer Honor Delegations!

Quick Facts about the Teams:

  • Students hail from 12 States and 1 Canadian Province, spanning coast to coast
  • Combined, all of the students have attended 97 conferences over the past four years
  • Out of 97 conferences, students have won 69 awards, including 42 gavels
  • Combined, students have taken or will take over 95 AP or IB courses
  • 7 students attend private schools and 12 attend public schools
  • 3 students are in the Class of 2015, 11 are in the Class of 2016, and 5 are in the Class of 2017
  • Students hold citizenship in 6 countries: Canada, United States, India, France, Korea, and Vietnam
  • Students can speak a combined 10 different languages
  • The teams are made up of 10 women and 9 men
  • 18 students will compete at WEMUN Expo and 8 students will compete at HMUN India

 

Katherine CohenKatherine Cohen

Gulliver Preparatory (FL), Class of 2017

Katherine Cohen started her Model United Nations career in seventh grade, and she is currently a sophomore at Gulliver Preparatory High School in Miami, FL. From the beginning she was a successful delegate, winning Best Delegate in a General Assembly at her first competition. She’s won recognition at every conference she has attended, including both Columbia University Model United Nations and Stanford University Model United Nations. When she is not preparing for or participating in a conference, Katherine spends her time studying, reading, or writing. Katherine is also particularly proud of her ability to say numerous terrible puns. Katherine is excited and honored to be a part of the All American Model United Nation Team travelling to Beijing.

Mira Costa High School (CA), Class of 2016

HMUN India Delegation


Kathryn Cross is an incoming senior at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, California.She is passionate about international relations and truly enjoys debating a range of different topics in different committees, such as ECOFIN and Security Council. She has debated at nine different conferences since her first Model UN conference during her freshman year. Her favorite conference was MUNUC at University of Chicago, Illinois because she was able to debate economic rehabilitation in the Middle East, her favorite topic thus far. HMUN India will not be her first international conference, but it will be her first one outside of North America because she also debated at McGill University’s MUN conference, SSUNS last November. She is excited to be part of a wonderful team of others who enjoy researching international relations.

Donald Frank is sixteen years old and a junior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology, where he is an officer on the Model UN team and a member of the Varsity Lacrosse team. Donald has participated in Model UN for 5 years and has enjoyed competing at national conferences such as WMSHMUN, ILMUNC, and WAMUNC in addition to running crisis committees at TJ’s Model UN Conference, TechMUN. Outside of school and sports, Donald participates actively in Boy Scouts, serving as a Senior Leader in his troop and having gone on trips to all of BSA’s High Adventure bases including canoeing in Canada, hiking in New Mexico, and scuba diving in the Florida Keys.

Hershey High School (PA), Class of 2017

Jason Guo is a sophomore at Hershey High School in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He started Model UN as a freshman and is currently the vice president of his delegation. Jason has attended SUSMUN, ILMUNC, and my local conferences. He personally enjoys crisis committees because of the fast pace and flow of debate. Outside of Model UN, Jason is a varsity swimmer, violinist, and a student council representative. This is his first time out of the country for a conference and is very excited!

The Loomis Chaffee School (CT), Class of 2016

WEMUN Expo Delegation

Eliza Hoang was born in Hanoi, Vietnam and is currently a junior at The Loomis Chaffee School, a boarding school in Connecticut. Model UN marked the turning point of her high school career in her sophomore year, after she attended YMUN and BOSMUN, where she recently won a gavel. Eliza has been an avid MUN debater for almost two years plans to continue my passion for MUN when she goes to college. She prefer double delegations and ECOSOCs, especially those discussing human rights or environmental issues. Outside of the classroom, Eliza is the club president of Girls Learn International, a school peer counselor, a Chinese tutor and a pianist. She is super thrilled to be a member of the All-American delegation and looks forward to participating in WEMUN Expo 2015 this summer in Beijing– her first international MUN conference!

Upper Canada College (ON), Class of 2016

Nikhil is the lone and first Canadian representative on the All-American Model UN honor delegations and he is excited to be representing the Great White North! Nikhil hails from the great city of Toronto, Ontario and attends Upper Canada College. He has been competing in Model UN for four years and has been honored to be part of the one of the best performing schools in Canada. Outside of Model UN, Nikhil enjoys spending time under the sea scuba diving.

Floral Park Memorial High School (NY), Class of 2016

One day, Thomas Kenna hopes to be the President of the United States. Today, he is a sixteen-year-old junior at Floral Park Memorial High School. His love for history, politics, and foreign policy have grown since he first became involved in Model UN in eighth grade, winning at almost all of the eight conferences he has been to so far. In addition to Model UN, Thomas is extremely involved at his school, having previously been the President of his class, and currently as the President of his school’s Key club chapter, the Editor-in-Chief of his school’s newspaper, and the Vice President of Student Council. He is also the school mascot, a vocal member of the Shared Decision Making committee, a volunteer tutor to elementary students, and an active Youth Ministry member at church. Thomas will soon be an Eagle Scout; he is passionate about scouting and has previously served as the Senior Patrol Leader in his troop. When he is not preparing for or participating in a MUN conference, you can find him reading or watching the news.


Robert MathernRobert Mathern

St. Vincent St. Mary High School (OH), Class of 2016

WEMUN Expo Delegation

Robert Mathern is currently a junior at St. Vincent St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. Robert has been involved in Model UN for two years. Robert was awarded Best Delegate at his second conference.  Robert has won awards at every conference he has attended.  Robert prefers Security Council committees. Outside of Model UN, Robert is a member of his school’s TARC Rocket team, as well as a member of the boys’ soccer team and track team.  Robert will also be serving as a delegate to Buckeye Boys State this summer.  Robert is fluent in Spanish.  Robert’s hobbies include playing the ukulele.  It is an honor for him to be representing his school, state, and country at the WEMUN Expo in Beijing, China.

McLean High School (VA), Class of 2017

Jennifer is a junior at McLean High School in Northern Virginia. She has been participating in Model United Nations for 3 years and learned her passion for the club as a middle school delegate in Korea. Jennifer actively participates in her school’s MUN team, debate team, and is president of Key Club. She also enjoys playing the violin and competitively swims year round. Model UN has become an important part of Jennifer’s high school career from numerous conferences during the school year to attending Best Delegate during summer break. She is very excited for WEMUN Expo and cannot wait to travel with All-American to Beijing!

Alex considers himself a true citizen of the world. He moved around a lot in his childhood and lived for many years in both Paris, France and Seoul, South Korea. It was not until he started Model UN that Alex saw the tremendous value of his international background. The activity has been his most involving extracurricular and it has shaped him in a myriad of ways. Altogether, Alex has attended 10 MUN conferences; YMUN was his personal favorite. In his years as President of Lexington High School’s MUN Club, Alex has learned a tremendous amount about leadership, diplomacy, and teamwork. He is excited to bring his experience to this year’s All-American MUN Team.

Santa Margarita Catholic High School (CA), Class of 2016

Joseph is currently a junior at Santa Margarita Catholic HS in Southern California. In addition to participating in his school’s MUN delegations to both Brown University and Claremont McKenna College, he has also served on the Secretariat for the South Orange County MUN (SOCOMUN) Conference, the largest one-day novice “training” conference in the world. Aside from MUN, he is also Captain of his school’s Speech/Debate Team, debates for a nationally competitive collegiate debate team (Irvine Valley), and serves as his school’s student representative to the National Speech & Debate Association. Joseph is excited to be part of the All-American Model UN Team and is honored to represent the United States at the WEMUN Expo this summer!

The Gilman School (MD), Class of 2015

Ethan Park is a senior at Gilman School in Baltimore, Maryland, and he will be attending Columbia University in the fall, where he looks forward to participating in the college’s Model UN programs. Having developed apassion for discussion, debate, and problem solving, he has participated in Model UN for four years and is the President of his school’s Model UN delegation. He has won awards at five of the seven conferences that he has attended and particularly enjoys crisis committees. Outside of Model UN, Ethan also plays varsity tennis, leads his school’s Debate Club and has served as a Managing Editor of the school newspaper. In his free time, he enjoys reading newspapers and novels as well as watching films.

Henry M. Gunn High School (CA), Class of 2016

Grace Park is a junior at Henry M. Gunn High School. She fell in love with Model UN in her freshman year, and has since attended fourteen conferences of various sizes. Her own experiences chairing a committee give her considerable respect for the people organizing and chairing an international conference such as WEMUN. She is also the president of Gunn’s debate team, has been elected to student government for the past six years, and is a national taekwondo referee. In her free time, Grace loves ice skating, reading The Economist and taking long naps in the sun. Having lived in three countries, she has come to enjoy learning new languages and is currently struggling to learn Arabic. She looks forward to meeting new people through All-American Model UN and has high hopes for WEMUN.

Abigail (Abi) Rasol attends the Abraham Joshua Heschel School in New York City. Now a sophomore, Abi became involved in Model UN upon her entry into high school. She has since grown to love the rigorous debate and various learning experiences that accompany the activity, and has participated in several conferences over the last two years, her favorite being Harvard Model United Nations. Aside from participating in Model UN, Abi also enjoys ballet, which she has been training in for 13 years, traveling, reading about medicine, and spending time with her family. Abi is extremely excited to attend the WEMUN Expo in Beijing this upcoming summer!

Morgan Rose is currently a Sophomore (rising junior by the time of the summer) from Loudoun Valley High School in Northern Virginia. This will be Morgan’s second time competing with one of the All-American delegations and she is super excited! Morgan has competed in Model UN for two years and serves as her team’s Vice President and the Undersecretary General for the National Council of Arab Relations “Model Arab League” conference for 2015. Aside from MUN, she competitively horseback rides, plays field hockey, plays the violin and consumes outrageous amounts of coffee.

Vyoma SahaniVyoma Sahani

Vyoma Sahani has been participating in Model UN conferences since freshman year as a member of her school’s Model UN club. Her passion and interest in Model UN led to her to becoming the vice president of the club as a junior. From crisis to specialized committees, Vyoma has experienced a wide range of committees at local to national level conferences. Through Model UN, she has honed her public speaking and debate skills and delved into many fascinating global topics. Besides Model UN, Vyoma is a member of her school’s tennis team and runs an animal rights club. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, trying new foods, and exploring the great outdoors. As a travel enthusiast, Vyoma cannot wait to go to India and China this summer!

Highland Central High School (NY), Class of 2015

As an honors student at Highland Central High School, Danielle has developed a passion for international affairs through her participation in Model UN. She is president of her school’s Student Council and Art Club and the Student Representative on the Highland Board of Education. As the President of her schools’ Model UN Club, she’s led many first time delegates through the process of becoming an experienced delegate. Next year, she will attend Baruch College of Public Affairs, and seek to join their prestigious Model UN Team of course.

Evan TorissiEvan Torissi

Red Hook High School (NY), Class of 2016

Evan Torrisi is a junior at Red Hook High School, New York. At Red Hook, Evan has been a member of the Model UN team for the last two years. Evan has both served a number of committees, and has loved every minute of it. In addition to Evan’s love of international politics, Evan also loves history. Thus, Evan’s favorite committees have always been specialized, historical committees.


Angel Zhou

The Branson School (CA), Class of 2016

WEMUN Expo Delegation

Angel Zhou is currently a junior at The Branson School in Ross, California. She has always been engrossed in global issues and international relations, so Model UN naturally sparked her interest when she first entered high school. Angel enjoys competing with her school’s small Model UN club and challenging herself to think critically, solve global problems, and meet new people during committee. So far, her favorite conference remains the first she ever attended, SMUNC, hosted by Stanford University. Besides actively involving herself in her academic studies, Angel trains in classical ballet, is a black belt in tae kwon do, and plays piano as a part of California’s MTAC Pianists. Additionally, Angel serves as the director of Vivace, a music charity group who performs classical music concerts for the elderly in local retirement communities, churches, and hospitals and to raise money for children’s organizations, both domestic and international. Angel looks forward to representing her school, community, and country by participating in WEMUN Expo 2015 in Beijing, China.
